Quick tip: Know who to contact at nursing homes for credentials verification

A physician comes to practice in your facility after practicing for 15 years in a nursing home environment. Do you know whom to contact to verify the physician's experience? Unlike contacting acute care hospitals with a dedicated MSO, finding somebody to verify a physician's work at a nursing home or other long-term care facility can be tricky.

In the likely event the facility you are contacting does not have an MSO, try reaching out to either the nursing home administrator or medical director, say experienced MSPs on our Medical Staff Talk e-mail group. While many staff members at the facility may recall working with the physician, only administrators or medical directors should be used to verify affiliation and dates of service.
